The TV furniture: flat screen and tube TV sets
The furniture needs have totally changed during the past say 50-100 years and have changed for good in respect to those of the previous centuries: the progress in technology and the general inclination to live in smaller houses (for need or for demand) have overturned the priorities in furnishing the dwellings.
The kitchen is now a sort of spaceship (in various degrees of technical details and dimensions), filled with all the possible appliances that help sparing time in meal preparation and preservation . The bedroom is a minimal place where the bed is nearly alone and the old massive wardrobe is often transformed in walk-in closet, stealing the bedroom space then as now. The bathroom is a multipurpose place where the personal and the house hygiene are both carried out.
The living room, which was the drawing room or the parlor in the good ol'times, has turned into a secondary room, mainly for the family and less for the possible guests, where the fireplace around which the family members gathered in the old winter evenings has changed its face. The central piece of the living room is now the TV screen, accompanied by all the devices to exploit its values: DVD and CD players and recorders, home theatre with loudspeakers and projector, games consoles and other devices, with all the relating remote controls. Sitting comfortably is an important point but here we would like to point our attention on the TV furniture.
All the pieces composing the TV set take a considerable space, the screen dimensions are increasing (accordingly to our increasing addition to the screen itself) and often there are cables and plugs to be protected/hidden/concealed to avoid dust and damages.
All the manufacturers are aware that the TV stands and shelving units are no background pieces. The diffusion of the flat screen TV sets have created a series of pieces that besides being actual and contemporary are pleasant and with multiple functionality.
