Bedroom: the bedside tables and nightstands
Some pieces of furniture are something you can't do without in one or another form, but it is hardly at times to remember them in the furnishing list because they are a silent and precious presence. Like the water, something we are used to easily access but we pay little attention to somehow, giving it for granted, the same can be applied for some objects of common and everyday use like the nightstands.
Paying our tribute to this humble piece who was originated by the need to hide an embarrassing object to be used in the night when the bathrooms were built outside the home premises, it gradually became important to hold the discreet lighting and the small objects you may need during the night, or whenever you stay in bed: glasses of water, books and magazines, tissues, hand cream, spectacles, alarm-clock, pens and other private details.
Nightstands are also called bedside tables and can be built in different materials and styles. The most common is wood, natural or stained in various colors. Other materials are laminated or lacquered MDF, metal, plastic, rattan. The design ranges from the single-shelved unit with no legs (a sort of empty or full cube) to the lion-leg-shaped carved rosewood inlaid antique decorated with bronze knobs or handles.
Therefore the range is vast and can suit literally any need for the bedroom. Some other objects and accessories can also be used and considered as bedside tables or nightstands, for example the poufs or the small footstools with a flat horizontal surface that can be easily set at the sides of the bed or be part of the living room.
