Bookcases: not really needed to decorate a space until you have one and wonder how you ever did manage without it.
Boockases organize the space in a room and are not only destinated to host books. The trend is to use a part or a lot of the spaces available for display purposes: your precious vases collections, the pictures of your beloved in nice frames, the little or big objects that give personality to a room. And of course books and magazines.
After all, bookcases developed around the need to store books, which cannot be kept on their side because the pages do not breathe, are not handy to be stacked one on the other as if you need to pick the one on the bottom of the pile you are getting close to a book deflagration all over the space.
E.g. the libraries never keep their books flattened on their sides, and space benefits are clear and unmistakeable.
Another feature of modern and contemporary design is to use a library to part the space of a room. For this purpose the manufacturers and designers present shelves and structures finished on all visible sides and leave the piece without backpanels. The result is privacy for the users but natural or artificial light going through.
